I have seen this happen time and time again. Folks take psyllium and become severly constipated. Why? Well is it usually because of lack of proper hydration.

Psyllium swells to 50 TIMES its size when wet. Think about this - 1 TEASPOON of psyllium will create 1 CUP + 2 TEASPOONS of stool. This one tiny teaspoon of psyllium will also need 8 ounces + 2 teaspoons of water to become properly hydrated.

There are colon cleansers out there that recommend 3 TABLESPOONS of psyllium per day. This amount will create about 10 CUPS of stool PER DAY! This amount will also need about 80 ounces of water PER DAY to work properly. This water intake is OVER & ABOVE the normal recommended 2 quarts of water that the body needs. Therefore, if you are taking 3 tablespoons of psyllium per day for colon cleansing - then you will also need to drink 144 OUNCES of water PER DAY. (1 gallon + 16 ounces)

Lack of proper hydration will cause horrible constipation, gas and bloating. However, when taken correctly, psyllium can be one of the best colon cleansers out there. It is insoluable and creates a big scrubbing sponge that will soak up toxins and will trap and remove visible parasites (it will literally trap them and pull them out of the body along with the stool) and old built-up fecal matter (also know as mucoid plaque). It is not addictive and it will actually make the colon "exercise" - without chemical stimulation. It will make the colon stronger - not lazy.

So remember - for every TEASPOON of psyllium taken - you will need to drink 8 ounces of water.
