I don't know where you live, Squeaky...but I do know that the size of the Chamber
wouldn't matter. Because 'you' could be the one to bring people from surrounding
communities and even towns far away...to your little town.
If you're creative and a dreamer...BUT STILL HAVE A SOLID HEAD ON YOUR SHOULDERS :-)
you could organize flea markets...and craft shows...to do that you could get in touch with people who take small flea markets and craft shows around the country.
They have a list of vendors...and those vendors are sitting on dead ready for somewhere to take their 'wares'. :-) They would be partially responsible for
advertising...your chamber would do the rest. But my goodness, the sky is the limit. With either one...you could organize city wide yard sales...and people would
pour in from all over the place...spending money at your gas stations...grocery
stores, other stores...etc. YOU...SQUEAKY CLEAN...could be the person to put your
little town on the map. And isn't THAT right down your alley? :-)
Seriously...we're in a small town...and I organized a group just a couple of years
ago...that wasn't even connected with the chamber...to do this very thing. It was
a HUGE success. But not something I wanted to do on a continual basis. Our group
organized a big summer flea market...we had flea market vendors in all our little
parks...and also had a city wide yard sale. And it was bumper to bumper traffic
all day long. People came from all the surrounding towns and it was unbelievable.
You could also organize things like 'town get togethers' on Friday or Saturday
nights from May till September. We have that also. And we have some kind of talent
on each corner of our little 3 block town. One corner is Karoke (sp?) and that's
where you'll find the most people congregated. And people bring lawn chairs...
and we have food and soft drink vendors. A very 'small town' ...very family friendly get together.
The possibilities are endless...and as you brought in more and more revenue for your
little town from tourists, etc...your chambers need for your creative mind would
increase tremendously...increasing your income.
This is the perfect job for a person with a creative and dreamy mind. Just something to think about. kathryn
