according to white tiger, any pine needle will work. i have only used the long ones, but you could try the short ones and see how it goes. by the way, white tiger notes that the drug that has proven to be affective against bird flu is based on pine needle extract. and pycnogenol, which is pine bark extract, is one of the most potent antioxidents on the market.
