montessori read and was heavily influenced by steiners school at waldorf. at the time the steiner school in stuttgart germany (later steiners schools became known as waldorf schools) was the most successful independant school in europe. montessori studied its method and was influenced by it. she did however make changes and develop her own unique system. there are specific difference between the two systems but i am not knowledgable enough to know the details.
