No links to other web sources are being provided here. For those interested, browse as you see fit and and your own risk. There no doubt are numerous and various recent "stories" out there, in various flavors to suit even the most discerning tastes one may have for whatever it is they choose to take in as "news". The news here is that, just in time for Christmas, the state of Pennsylvania has just been formally granted (read: legislated) the gift to gamble..... this is way beyond the petty method of Lottery, folks. We're talking full-fledged casino action. Wooohooo!
In the dizzaying, mixed up way that people see roses by all kinds of other names, this one no doubt is being perceived by many as "modern progress". Try to forget for the moment that during those rare lucid moments any of us may experience in these modern days, progress in this case is progressing backwards, in a just-how-low and just how-far-back is humanity - on a local region basis, willing to progress?
The vote is in and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has decided to award Pittsburgh’s slots license to Don Barden’s Majestic Star .......Barden formed Majestic Star Casino, LLC 13 years ago and now they will build their fifth casino - in Pittsburgh..............
Barden says the casino's modern design and sparkling views will be an asset to a section of the Ohio River that has been largely left out of the city's riverfront development.......
For clarification of the above quoted bad grammar, Barden currenty has 4 casinos; none of them in Pittsburgh. Presently there are no (zero) legal casinos in Piitsburgh since such was heretofor illegal.
With such glowing terms, how many of you at home can, right along with me, already see....envision the rampant splendor that will come with the rose otherwise named Casino Slots Gambling? ..... ahhh, yes, such sparkling terms for this state-approved decadence almost allows me to feel and see it already; the glories of the seedy undergrowth and all the deranged personalities and criminalities that comes with and grows up around a culture with a penchant for rubbing elbows with or hanging onto the coat tails of graft. Just think of all those additional high-paying minimum wage jobs this will bring to the area? Just think of all those households and lives therein already on the brink of disaster, be it presently in the form of poverty or in the form of those who are already enjoying lavish, wonderfully successful lives of six figure salaries and higher. Vice, be it gambling or other, afflicts people of all walks of life, all the way from Fifth Avenue down to the formal recipients of government wellfare.
Anyone who's been casually following this story, itself which has been fomenting and forming for conservatively the past 5 years, knows full well already that there are many levels and layers of corruption at work here, corruption that itself occurs across the full spectrum of domestic political life, from the federal level, trickling down through the state, and now finally seeping deeply into the local areas, the crevices that are the destinations many of us call home.
The casino will be located on a 17-acre piece of land, which is west of the Carnegie Science Center.
This quote is a fitting close to current news that speaks of a quality and substance of science that could only have been brought to us by the most modern and refined methods of social sciences; cha-ching.
