I understand your point, and he does make some interesting suggestions, like drinking lemon water. It's just that I become very cautious when I read an unsubstantiated statement like that and get concerned others will accept it blindly. After all, at least some must have been cured with Nystatin. I can think of one poster here--Deb. She got cured using Nystatin but it took her six months to do so. May I ask, what has been your experience with antifungals? I was on Difulcan for a week but four days after I went off, my skin yeast infection came back in a rage. My doctor then put me on Nystatin for two weeks. I just finished the course of Nystatin on Friday and am in "wait-and-see" mode.

I think something that is overlooked in this struggle is just how hard it is to get over a yeast or fungal infection. Several years ago I went to New York on business and stayed in a hotel that has a lot of interational visitors. I picked up a fungus on my chest from the bathroom vanity from bending over and touching it while brushing my teeth. When I got home, I put Tinactin on it for two weeks, and it disappeared at first, but then several days later, it returned. I put Tinactin on it again for two weeks and the same thing happened. Finally, I was able to get rid of it by putting Tinactin on it for six weeks. But then, about a year-and-a-half later, I went through a very stressful time in my life and once again the fungus popped up. Apparently, the six weeks on Tinactin had made it to where my immunity could keep in in check, but when my immunity became challeneged by stress, the fungus gained an upper hand again. Finally, after putting Tinactin on it for six months, I was able to get rid of it.

When these fungus and yeast infections strike, they burrow deep into the skin. Getting rid of the top layer only through a short course of antifungals only allows it to come back after it regroups. I strongly feel that in order to get rid of a seriuos yeast infection, it may take a six-month course of Nystatin. Tomorrow, even if all looks well, when I go see my doctor, I'm going to ask him if I can stay on Nystatin longer.
