I need to ask - are you good friends with someone named Farenheit? (much chuckling!!)

He's actually my brother! But I do beleive that chlorine is acidic and that by adding the alkalizing substances that this should neutralize the chlorine! However you may need to add more then the normal amounts! This is why i think you should ask moreless I am sure he could give you a better answer!
