My root canal was still infected. I had to convince the oral surgeon to pull the tooth. After he pulled it, he couldn't believe it - the root was still infected.

Another point - when they do your root canal, they will drill out the amalgam. Which will cause you grief in the future from the mercury vapor released.

If it was my mouth, I would get the tooth pulled.
