From what I have experienced it is best to begin slowly and build up length of time when fasting. Both Erhart and Bragg have written that modern man is so toxic that a prolonged water fast would probably kill them. For Erhart modern meant the early 1900s, and for Bragg the 1950s or so. If man was too toxic to do prolonged water fasts 100 years ago, why should we think we can do it now. Juice fasting is much more gentle than water fasting, but still requires some preparation for most people who have lived a lifetime with bad food. Depending on how clean you are, you might want to start with a juice fast just one day a week up to three to five days a week. It took me months of short fasts including water, juice and Master Cleanse before I felt able to do one two week MC fast. Fasting does get easier as our bodies become cleaner and we get used to the idea of not eating solids. I am getting ready to do my three day Christopher Cleanse which is ideal for getting rid of mucus from bad eating, colds, allergies and other sources. It is basically a juice and distilled water fast, but it begins each morning with two cups of prune juice. Dr. Christopher claims this not only cleans out the bowel, but helps draw toxins out of the lymph and blood. I realize that MH does not really endorse the use of prunes and prune juice, but this short fast has been a miracle for me in the past, and I am needing another miracle right now to get rid of this never-ending cold plus some bowel problems. Of course, as with any fast, the real key to success is proper eating between the fasts. If one goes back to eating junk, fasting cannot give lasting results.
