Right on, Grzbear!

Though I do think we have kind of shot ourselves in the foot...with the question of taste.

There is a woman in our family who admits to not being much of a cook. Her mom is the same.

Our family member is, nonetheless, a MOST picky eater...AND her husband was many years a food salesman for a large food processor.

The lady also admits to being a Sugar freak, and makes every allowance for sweets that the diabetes 'rules' will hold still for.

If it weren't so serious, it would be funny, to watch her machinations to get her ketchup or a tart or whatever 'fix'...and watching her eye anything slightly 'different' with suspicion.

Ketchup mysteriously leaps from my fridge onto our dining table, when they are here for a meal.

Poor lady, she tries to make things that are a little bit 'new' to her when we eat there...or keep things she 'doesn't like' to side dishes.

A life-long dieter (high protien) she HAS given up artificial sweeteners in her coffee, opting for 'stevia' in a packet with her 'creamer'.

And she has expressed curiosity in my herbal liver cleansing, bless her.

My point in relating this story is that one's tastes CHANGE the more interested we become in the original forms of food. We just can't help it, as you already know.

We become thrilled, even turned on, by more and more wholesome ingredients.

A little 'treat' of 'the usual' repels us, even disgusts...we wonder how we could ever have desired it.

And, that's the truth, for anyone thinking of doing differently.

But, we seem to retain some last bastion of 'taste', defending it with all our might, while probably 'confronting' our evil demon.

That's when we get into 'getting more of what we DON'T want'. Focussing too much on the 'negative', which fights back fiercely.

I remember the only man in my first Weight Watchers group (mid-1960's). We women almost disliked him for losing so quickly and easily, but he was such a fun person.

He told how a friend of his was opening a pizza parlor and held a party the night before, where he made all his friends individual pizzas.

Ed told us he was resisting manfully, when his pizza started fighting dirty...wafting its fragrance up under his nose.

"So, I bit it!"

If only we knew in advance that the foods we come to prefer become more exotic and flavorful than anything we once ate!

The body knows best. Satisfaction soars beyond belief.

Since I prefer all healthcare to be easy, I go a great deal with satisfaction. In all but one thing, so far. So, I think I'll stop beating myself up about it, and imagine the satisfactions that will be mine.

(He-he!)

Many thanks to all who contribute to this thread. I was getting kind of frustrated.

A little help from my friends is a wonderful thing.

Fledgling
