It appears to me that either the end of the enema tip or tube was pressing up against an impacted mass of stool, or perhaps against the wall of the rectum/sigmoid. It's also possible that you were tense and your colon was contracting and developing a negative pressure that was greater than the gravity inflow pressure.

Try raising the height of the bag to 4 feet, but make sure that you can work the shutoff while you are lying in the tub. Make sure that the water is a few degrees above body temperature to relax the colon (103 F at prep time).

Release the shutoff and allow some water to flow. You should feel the warmth of the inflow. Clamp off the shutoff and wait 10-30 seconds and then release it and let in another few ounces. Repeat this alternating sequence of allowing a few ounces in at a time and then pausing, until you have taken the desired amount.

If you are using plain water it's best not to retain the enema for more than a minute or two before carefully getting up and out of the tub and on to the toilet to eliminate. A saline solution can safely be retained a little longer (5-15 minutes).
