Hi wittlewabbitte :)
I do suggest she takes a large pinch of Slippery Elm and let it disolve in her mouth before swollowing it, because Olive leaf can irritate the stomach lining on some people but not many. Slippery Elm will protect her stomach lining from the Olive Leaf tea.
It may even be helpful if she applies this tea externally on effected areas also.
I believe you will find the tea more effective than the tablets because the tea more readily extracts the main ingredient oleuropein for her body to use it faster than the tablets. I think the tablets promote more stomach acid to break down the pill which I think destroys much of the oleuropein before the body absorbs it to kill viruses, but this is only my personal opinion of tea verses the pills.
The tea should be a medium amber color. To the ailment sip refrigerated or re-heated tea and consume two quarts over a two day period.
Olive Leaf kills viruses by interfering with certain amino acid production processes necessary for the vitality of the specific shingles virus. The active ingredient in Olive Leaf that does this is oleuropein.
I suggest this method for potency if you can and you are equipped to do this.
Place 8 ounces (half of a one pound bag) of dried olive leaves (use olea europaea species only) in a 5 or 6 quart Crock-Pot. Add one gallon of filtered or distilled water. Turn heat on low. 6 hours later, check the temperature with a candy thermometer (from your hardware store). When the temperature falls between a range of 175° to 185°, move cover off center about 1/4 inch so some heat escapes. This should stabilize the temperature for the next 5 hours. The ideal temperature range to make the tea is at least 175° but not more than 185° Fahrenheit. At the 11th hour, add water lost through evaporation until it returns to its original level. Center cover so no more heat escapes and leave on low for one more hour. Total time to make the tea is 12 hours. Let is cool for 2 to 4 hours, then strain and store in glass bottles in a refrigerator until used. Discard what is not used within two weeks. Also, discard sooner if a film of mold appears in the jar. A lab test using the this method showed 213 mg of oleuropein per 1/2 cup of this home made formula.
Just so there will be no surprises, I just want to make you aware that the Olive Leaf tea is non toxic, but if her body is burdened with yeast and other microbes. The tea can sometimes cause a "die-off" effect. When the body is full of the dead yeast and other microbes, She could experience one or more detoxification symptoms, such as headache, fatigue, nausea and flu-like symptoms until these dead microbes are eliminated from her body.
Sorry for the long post, I suppose I could have shortened it by trimming here and there, but I do hope you give this a try as I have seen good results from it and I do hope it works well for your mother.
