Thanks to all of the posts - I definitely need to take some steps, even if they're baby steps!

The thing that I find most discouraging about pursuing a better lifestyle is that so many people around me in the Real World just aren't interested in doing anything positive for themselves. There's not a more glaring example than in a typical grocery store. Rows and rows of processed food, cadmium red meats, etc., etc., all appear to be so flipping healthy and appetizing! And, it's all icky stuff!

We're trying to get into more organic foods, etc., and having one's own chickens is a baby step, to be sure! Our chickies eat just about anything that doesn't bite them, first, though they remain dubious about pizza and pasta . Their eggs are spectacular - thick, firm whites with beautiful yolks! Not like the ones that we can get from the grocery store: all runny, pale, and tasteless.
