I hope someone can help me figure this "green vegetable" intolerance out. Im at my witts end.
Ok here's my story for the past four years I have been "allergic" to green veggies and some other foods like beans, cocoa, fish, and all foods containing even a little omega 3. This started two weeks after my C-section.
I did ok when I supplemented omega 6 and GLA for a while then that stopped working so well. My allergic symptoms are -insomnia, extremely dry and fragile skin (when I eat green veggies or herbs my skin, soles of my feet and lips get very dehydrated, thin, inflammed and red then cracks, bleeds, peels and burns like a sunburn! When I put pressure on my skin it leaves an impression that takes more than a few minutes to plump back up). Oh and my hair falls out in clumps. I endured these symtpoms for over three years during which time I ate a very healthy diet eating primarily fruits and green veggies. By chance I discovered that when I did not have veggies my symptoms improved. When I cut out the green veggies and omega 3 sources my insomnia and skin was much improved however even one small serving of greens would set me back for a few day with my symptoms. I also would get skin symptoms from too much oil.
I started to work on alkalizing, cut out those foods which made me acidic (white flour, sugar, excess protein) and did the alkalizing drinks. I have been alkaline (7.0-7.5) for over a month now (while eating primarily fruit with only a few veggies though not any green ones. I went through some detox symptoms, felt better health wise but the insomnia and crazy skin thing continues. I tried to increase my alkaline drinks but they too started to cause me the same problems.
I recently discovered that potassium gluconate capsules, potato skin broth, and potassium chloride greatly relieves me of the extremely dry skin and also eases my insomnia but not 100%. So I assume then that I must be deficient in potassium. But yet I still get the insomnia and skin problems when I eat anything green (or beans, cocoa, garlic and a few other foods) I would really love to eat some more veggies and beans!!
Sometimes the potassium doesnt work that well but so far it has been a godsend, the difference is night and day without the potassium. I also still need the GLA and omega 6 and need to avoid omega 3 fats.
But I seem to require a lot of potassium to relieve symptoms. I now realize that my "allergy" is probably a mineral imbalance but I dont know how to get back on track. So potassium alone doesnt seem to be the answer but its the best clue I have had thus far.
Any idea of what is going on here? I am going crazy, my diet is so limited.
thank you VERY much!
