Thanks for the support AK , that was also my thoughts about the electro-magnetic exposure etc.....in my mind chemical ie: sulphur or lime or a beneficial nematode/enzyme or other would be the way to go......I understand the expediancy , the chemical (natural organic) might take awhile to break down and do it's work , so the nematode/enzyme would seem more practical. I've used them for grubs and borers , once applied the multiply very fast (the larger the problem the faster they multiply((larger food supply , faster they grow and multiply))). I would think with a rotational crop , an application of benificial nematodes , one off season would turn the problem around , but it might be the second year before you could go back to potatoes. I realize you might not be set up to harvest anything but potatoes , but you could connect with another grower and plant ,say corn to be used for alcohol production , as the futures are up , since there is a push to produce for fuel. This would also protect you from a mono culture frame of mind , and protect you from jumping off a bridge because you lost one year of production on your potatoes.........just my thoughts....Richard
PS I'll try to find some info on the nematodes , I sprayed them off with a 16 gal boom sprayer on the back of a gator....if I remember I was only out $250.00 to spray 32 acres , and that included the $129.00 for the sprayer.But this year no problems with grubs etc but had a bout with mildew , due to wet spring and then summer drought. I still got fruit , but small and spots so couldn't sell at farmers market.
