I know what you want, John. You want someone to apologize that some of the people in the world that are responsible for "BAD" (evil/wrong) are Christians, but I am not a spokesman for Christianity and no one at all can assume that role. Many people attempt to put us in that position, but it's like being a spokesman for humanity, it's just not possible, and it's unfair and unreasonable to think it is or attempt to place us in that position. If I tried to hold you accountable for the misdeeds of married people, that would be both unreasonable and unjust (not to mention illogical and completely irrational). It just wouldn't make any sense at all. My parents divorced when I was young AND it was always a dysfunctional family also. I suffered many consequences because of that all my life, but it would never cross my mind to even attempt to convince anyone that any reason exists that they could (or should) be held accountable for what others have done (even a divorced father with no conscience in a "pity party" about enduring a divorce agreement, something from personal experience).
"Good" (perfection) is an ABSOLUTE, so is truth (Truth is truth is truth). Contrary to popular belief, no one ON EARTH can be "Good" ("...No one is GOOD but God alone" Mark 10:18, we are to practice goodNESS). It is possible to be a "good TYPE" person, but we cannot actually be "GOOD" (much to the disappointment of 99% of humanity, including Christianity, sorry folks!, practicing goodNESS only makes us DECENT people).
The ONLY benefit and advantage a Christian has over an unbeliever is that we have assurance of everlasting life (as long as we learn from God's own spirit to conduct our lives in a loving manner treating each other with human rights/love/respect that a human being deserves and obedience to The Great Commission). It is not an increase in status, only an increase in the condition of our souls because we have accepted "the key" to everlasting life (Jesus is the safekeeper of our souls).
The piece that has not been realized, even unpopular in the churches, is that learning from God's spirit involves rejection of the word of the scholars, commentaries, pastor's and institutions in order to learn ONLY from God's spirit how to actually SHOW (instead of simply SAY that we respect each other) the respect that a human being deserves (which is why The Lord saw fit to be explicit, but human nature keeps most of us and the scholars from recognizing what is too difficult and unnatural to our "...natural limitations", Romans 6:19, same as "the flesh"). This is just one example of the partisan (non-generic and subjective) interpretation of scripture has misled many to become self-righteous. There are many well meaning and sincere Christians in the world that have developed a PERSONAL relationship with Jesus AND also love The Father of creation for sending Him AND appreciate that the father left His spirit to teach us how to love each other properly. The problem is that a SINCERE devotion such as this is not taught in the institutions, but can only be learned in the heart. So, there always will be hypocrisy (regrettable YES, but I am not responsible and should not be called to account for them, neither am I or any private individual qualified to provide justice) from many who only claim to be assured of eternal life (and possibly some who have temporarily fallen).
There is an enemy of life (satan) that we find very convenient to blame evil on, but since the creator is holding him back from destroying us, we (humanity) are our own worst enemy because of our self-serving biased interpretation of scripture (6th day creation's interpretation of the 66 books of the bible).
When a person assumes the role of spokesperson for Christianity (which it's really unrealistic to do so), embarassment will surely be a result, but Christianity is not a single person. Until someone can rightfully accept responsibilty and actually has the authority to prevent a repitition of such matters, the ridicule of Christianity is useless. Christianity may be ridiculed, but "Do not be decieved; God is not mocked...", Galatians 6:7.
