Greetings,
I'm in the process of transitioning to a mostly vegetarian diet. So, I searched around and found this forum.
I'm still eating fish (salmon) and eggs weekly. For years, a big focus of my diet has been soy...especially silk and tofu. I love silk!
Unfortunately, I've learned two things here in this forum:
1) Soy is not a good thing. I've read the articles referenced here and am soooo bummed and a little angered by the marketing deceit.
2) I'm most definitely a "fast oxidizer" type based on results of a couple of surveys I found here. A borderline "hard gainer".
I'm 6-2, 180 lbs, and have maintained this weight for 25 years. Most people consider me too skinny. I'm very active in sports...without which I would certainly be even skinnier. Sports keep some muscle on my frame and my weight up. My triglycerides are "too low" according to my doctor (triglyceride level is 35). I eat very little fat other than olive oil, and other "healthy fats". Lots of oatmeal.
So, now I'm confused. Meat does indeed agree with my system. Eggs seem to work very well for me. However, I'm trying to make this change.
Are most of you vegetarians giving up soy now? What the heck am I going to do without that fake sausage and bacon (soy based)? Not to mention silk?!!
Does my metabolic type require me to eat more meat and animal protein/fat? The truth is, I do feel pretty darned good if I eat bacon and eggs in the morning. Instead, I've had oatmeal most mornings for the last 5 years. I usually add some whey protein to my oats...but have switched to soy protein in the last 30 days.
My health is good; I'm rarely sick. I do suffer from various joint injuries due to the sports I play...but I suspect that's just part of the aging process (i'm middle aged and I play jarring sports). I could certainly use a little more muscle to support my joints.
Thanks for your thoughts and advice.
