I love beyondvegan.com! I'm grateful to the author for giving me a serious infusion of common sense when I really needed it. He sort has a unique perspective, having tried so many things over such a long period of time.

PS, in response to your question, I've spent time "following" several of those groups above, and as you know, some are more extreme than others. Without running down any one group, I wasn't comfortable with some of the extremists and especially with how they dealt with reports of bad health.

EDITED TO SAY:
I was thinking of http://www.beyondveg.com, not beyondvegan.com. The latter is a redirect to a different commercial domain where someone is selling another vegan book.

http://www.beyondveg.com is what I'd think of as required reading for anyone with an open mind about restrictive diets. The author isn't selling anything, and he has basically tried it all, rigorously and at length.

Interesting for me after my personal experience with raw, and more meaningfully with some of the more dogmatic raw adherents, is some writing he summarizes like this:

"Also figuring heavily into Part 3's discussion is an extended look at the psychological appeal of idealistic diets, and the perceptual filters created by idealistic views of natural diet. Extensively examined are the psychological traps that can result, including examples of circular reasoning processes that short-circuit logic and lead to distorted awareness and **rationalization of physical symptoms.** A conclusion suggests tips for staying alert and preventing yourself from falling into these traps which can sometimes seriously impact health."

(asterisks mine)
