Any chance that we build up patterns of preference as we grow older? Exceptions that deprive us of something we need? Annoyances we can't forgive? Expectations of dislike, or failure?

Are there certain attitudes we can't (or just don't) shake? Points-of-view we know are better, but seem impossible to maintain?

Have we used 'confrontation' or 'force' on ourselves, when 'invitation' and 'exploration' might have been wiser?

Do we choose too many 'comforts', and refuse 'bothers'? Could we accomodate a fresh idea, an activity we haven't yet tried, an unusual taste, sunlight and outdoors when we usually stay home?

Do we allow ourselves to lose talents...like now sitting down to pull on our socks, driving instead of walking, buying instead of making?

Sure, it would be silly to take on huge tasks suited only to the young...but why would we settle for only the limitations of the elderly?

Not that I think that's what you've done, Awhite, but I do know...ahem...some who are getting that way. (Blush. Uh...Mother, bring me my shawl!)
