Sometimes a dry fast is indicated, but it should never be done without supervision. Doing a dry fast without supervision would be as foolish as removing your own appendix. There are plenty of ways to fast on your own, but, dry fasts and prolonged water only fasts have too many potential dangers to ever do as a "do it yourself" project. One to three day water fasts or a juice fast is much safer, especially for those new to fasting.
