I'm still very unsure about whether to get a colonic. I really want to try it but am afraid of the health risks. I had a gravity colonic about six years ago but it didn't offer me any benefits and I'm unsure whether it was even performed in the correct way (it seemed that more water was flowing back out through the waste tube than was going in my body). I want to get a colonic using pressurized water and a machine but am afraid of things like electrolyte imbalance, possible perforation and elimination of good bacteria.

I've considered getting an enema bag and trying that to find out if it can offer me any benefits. However, I know that I would end up using water that would hurt me and not be entirely clean. At least with a colonic you're sure that the water is going through a really good filtration process. And I've watched the Optimal Health Network's downloadable videos on enemas and colonics which show a couple women getting them. If you haven't checked them out you should do so because they show the complete process in a graphic but tasteful fashion. Looking at the colonic one, in which a machine is used, has boosted my confidence that the experience could be good. It seems like a very enjoyable, relaxing procedure. Like I said, I've had a gravity one. My trepidation comes not from being penetrated in my rectum (as seems to be many people's objection) but from those possible health risks I mentioned.

One thing that alleviates that concern is the fact that doctors and nurses routinely use enemas on patients. So some doctors' assertions that the back end is an "exit only" thing is contradicted by the fact that enemas are widely used in regular medical practice. Of course a colonic is an enema times 100 and any risks are multiplied and that is what gives me pause.
