the link is a description of the clotting mechanism. poor circulation almost has to be the culprit.

i am particularly interested in this because of your description. i have had several instances lately where an area has mysteriously seemed traumatized, like a bruise or a pulled muscle, but there is no outward indication. maybe my wife is whacking me in my sleep!
