Hi,

I'm glad you've gotten better from your diet. However, Celiac is NOT an allergy to gluten....nor can it be diagnosed via any type of allergy testing. Celiac Disease is actually an autoimmune disease....its a completely different immune response than that of an allergy....which is why allergy testing is not specific for Celiac.

There ARE specific tests for Celiac but they are different from the type of testing you describe. These are the bloodtests used for diagnosing Celiac:

The complete blood panel for celiac consists of the following:
Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA
Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG
Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA
Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA
Total Serum IgA

There is also the biopsy which when positive clearly indicates Celiac but when negative does not always rule the disease out.

No type of food allergy testing is useful for diagnosing Celiac or an autoimmune response to gluten. It is entirely possible to have an intolerance to gluten that is NOT celiac but still this would be autoimmune and not allergy.

It is ALSO possible to be *allergic* to wheat, barley, rye or any gluten grain but again...an allergy is completely different from Celiac.

For further info. about what this means you can visit the Celiac.com message board.

If the diet is working for you and you are 100% improved then its very likely you do have Celiac or a gluten intolerance but just werent tested in the appropriate manner.
