People call it a scab because it looks like one.

You must notice that when your lip 'scabs' up the whole lip is pulled in tighter like it's trying to find it's real shape, this is probably becuase the lip is trying to remember how to form, especially for us lip biters who have chewed the skin off. This is 1 reason to leave it us as long as you can.
