Tortuous aorta indicates that the aorta is twisted or distorted in some way. This may be a result of many different factors, genetic or otherwise, but it is commonly associated with hypertension and reduced blood flow from a narrowing of the aorta, also called coarctation. Physical changes in the spine and chest wall may also contribute to this.
