Whe the intervention? Why can't he just die peacefully in his sleep? I'm not being judgemental, but I put my cat to sleep at the vet's recommendation and I will always regret it. Not that I think he would have lived, but that he could have just gone to sleep when he was ready. Animals in the wild die all the time without a vet, I'm sure they are fine.
