My two year old has perhaps 4 words that he uses, puts none together; but he babbles incessantly. He tries to say some other words but not very well. He interracts well with most people, laughs and is loving but he hasn't been around other children to know what to expect of them. He plays with them some but not much. He will ignore my calls. Will only respond to a forceful "no". He takes no interest in the activities that I set out for him and doesn't seem to pick up on cues of how to do things like drawing. His pediatrician doesn't think that it's autism, but a language delay. His hearing has been tested and he is going to speech therapy soon. The audiologist also said that he doesn't seem autistic, and agreed with the language delay theory. Commercials about the spike in autism cases have me worried. Could it be autism? He spins in circles, but don't all children do that? Outside of the lack of speech and not following directions he appears normal. Am I being paranoid?
