Hi Helpme17th,
That's a great question. There are a lot of companies out there and a lot of opinions.....I will keep mine simple.
Let's start at the begining; why do we need a probiotic in the first place.
All potential healing starts in the gut. If your gut is not healthy it is very difficult to be in an optimal state of health. Some researchers refer to the gut as your "second brain" (most of the sertonin is manufactured in the gut). Emotions can also play a big role in the gut health. Stress can affect the manufacturing process in the adrenals that produce the anti-bodies necessary for immune function.
It's very important to look at all aspects of your health. Stress, poor diet, lack of excercise can all play a role in your overall health. Keeping this in mind don't expect a miracle product that will compensate for everything.
Keeping the bateria in the gut balanced and beneficial is crucial. If you start a pre-biotic (an in-soluble fiber that will ferment in the gut and enourage the production of your own "good bacteria") you can balance the gut on your own. A probiotic acts like a band-aid. It does not encourage the production of your own "good bacteria" It's not a long term answer but an excellent short term solution. The pro-biotic is important today, the pre-biotic is important for long term.
I have looked at the brands of pro-biotics you mentioned and researched the companies that you are currently buying from. I am not a fan of HSO pro-biotics (my personal opinion) they are soil based and if not cleaned properly you could get parasites. The reviews on the other was mixed. I have no personal experience with either product.
You don't need all the "bells all the bells and whistes". Keep it right and keep it simple. More is not always better.
We have a great product that follows these guidelines and contains both a prebiotic and a probiotic. If I were to step outside of our product line I would have to recommend Dr. Mercola's pro-biotic. It is similar to ours but does not contain the pre-biotic. It's a very good product. I like his style and philosophes. He is an awesome health advocate.... and we are too!!
You should take a supplement and at the same time work towards encouraging and producing your own nautral pro-biotic. The foods that are most beneficial are; yogurt (goat if possible) and a blend of soluble and In-soluble fiber.
Remember that suplements are here to help you return to an excellent state of health, once you are there your diet and a healthy lifesytle will help keep you there. Supplements are not intended to be used for extended periods of time. They are here to supplement not replace.
Let me know if you have any other questions,
Namaste,
Ask Kelley
