Our beloved girl was just diagnosed with bone cancer. She has been having trouble walking, and x-rays showed spots in her chest cavity and shoulder. My husband and I decided a long time ago we would never subject her to chemo or radiation (after watching 3 family members suffer from cancer and chemo) and our vet agreed with us. He gave us pain meds and an anti-inflamatory and told us to keep up with her supplements (we have given her glucosamine for years and she also gets, fish oil, flax, b-complex with c, and vitamin E with selenium). We are also supposed to make sure she doesn't jump around or fall because she can easily break her bones. I am not looking for a "cure" I realize she is 11 and has had a wonderful life (we rescued her from horrible abuse when she was 6 mos. old) but I want to keep her as healthy as possible. I was wondering what I can give her that might be bone strengthening and what a good diet for her might be? We have switched her to a higher protein diet (she is starting to get thinner) and added yogurt and sardines or Salmon to her meals every day, which she LOVES. I have also started giving her one cooked egg mid-morning and 1/4 cup of goat's milk at night. She still has a hearty appetite, tries to play with our younger dog, have her belly rubbed, loves car rides and wants to lay in the sun. Is there anything else anyone can think of that might be beneficial, supplement or otherwise??
Thank you!
