Candida sure can look as you described. If you look at the upper left of this page on your browser screen, you'll see a link to "candida images."

Your guess that the length of time over which you will see strands depends on your condition is absolutely correct. To see them for months would not be unusual.

Finally, your question about liver flush: I don't know much about it, and was curious about your question, so looked around. Didn't take but a minute to find a site that recommends a very small amount of olive oil (+ lemon) for the liver:
