Thanks for your detailed response greenie
I have an average size garden and live near a park that is suitable for walking dogs. All the dogs from the rescue home will be already neutered and have a health check by the vet.
The rescue centre said that when I choose a dog, they will come and visit my home to make sure it is suitable.
I guess I don't want a dog who wants to run for miles, but I am of course happy to make sure that 2 walks a day take place (maybe 2-4 kms each walk is enough?) I think a dog, not too large, with a with a placid temperment is better for my household.
I think my kids want the dog to sleep in their room, but I have a utility room which has the back door connected. I was thinking that if the dog slept there, I can make a dog hatch so the dog can go and urinate in the morning before I wake up if necessary. Maybe have the dog wear a magnetic collar to open the hatch?
Also, I am wondering about how much food a dog eats, and whether I can sometimes cook certain meals that have health benefits?
Thanks!
