this website (I posted the link to) is deceptively simple, Fledgling.
It links to just about anything you'd require. What looks like only words are all active links
try here, for example:

There's the International Straw Bale Building Conference starting tomorrow in Ontario! Probably camping still available @;-) (<--- teasing with turban)
That would tend to gather architects, builders as well as enthusiast--so maybe you'd like to connect with the conference, even though it's probably too late to go.

hmm. About being a senior. These days "development tourism" is big even (maybe especially) among seniors. There's a project in 2007 to build a natural history museum in Nicaragua--that sounds wonderful. Maybe there's a discount for being senior?
oh and there's this: "Renowned Architect Douglas Cardinal to Design Strawbale Museum for Pangea" Do you know his work? He's the architect for the National Museum of civilization in Ottawa/Gatineau. Quite a breathtaking building with a gorgeous 'great hall'.

And I did see some roofing classes here or there--can't recall where right now.
I'm sure the page I linked to up top in this post will help--there you can ask for info and introductions.
Ditto with regard to tours.
I think you are on the west coast, correct? I'm sure there are connections to be made out there.
here's one, not in Canada, but in Oregon--sounds like they did a fun project in Mexico last year. Take a look. I very much like the notion of the "development" aspect of Development tourism, as it's called. I just don't really go for the "tourism" part. I must say it's a bit odd to see websites like this not being regularly updated. Makes things look as bit like they are sliding. Oh well.

One last thing--I was just reading about a group of women who built a vauted straw bale structure partly as spiritual practice in that they built it as a hermitage on some sacred land, and practised silence while they built, stopping every hour to meditate for five minutes.
here's the link

But it's from 2004. Where're the current projects!?
Fledgling, the time is ripe! :-)
(I'm currently looking into some apprenticeship opportunities. Another creative form of "tourism". This looks sort of appealing-- )

the connection was a round-about one through organic opportunities and wwoof
**something great for younger people, especially**

If you WERE to build a new green home, taking advantage of the workshop-hosting method, just think: you could then become a host for WWOOF volunteers/apprentices, and live the dream.
Whose dream? :-0 I honestly don't know. I think we are all tapping in to a dream of the world.
best wishes!
