Arid climate and High Altitude is the training ground for a vast majority of Permaculture - I'm sure there is a group near you.
If you've followed me thus far, start reading some of Masanobu Fukuoka books as well for even more insights.
And the techniques learned from P.A. Yeomans and Keyline Design.
The key you need to bear in mind is keep the carbon on/in the ground...this includes cardboard, wood chips, even whole logs and branches, and even charcoal. Ash is tricky as it depends on from what wood how it gets used {its acidity}.
Certainly devices like Sonic Bloom are cool but there are natural ways man has done this...Round Towers of Ireland, Whale Skin drums of the Northwestern Native Americans, even Didgeridoes of the Aborigines.
