I have a cousin, who's catholic, her husband too, if not more, the parents of the husband more than more. 5 years ago one of their 2 sons, 8 yo, was found with a lymphoma non-hogkin, pretty tough thing to find. They did the usual medical torturing treatments, including transplantation of the marrow, and poor Lorenzo became even blind at a certain point after an ictus, and finally died after 2 years of torments. They all had prayed all along, of course, also their church, alltogether, and it didn't work. But would you believe it? they are even more catholic now! my cousin is teaching to the kids in church about the bible and so on.

(Hopinso, hope you don't mind me being very outspoken. I'm a priest-eater, as we call it in Italy, against christian religion 100%, since ever)
