I've suffered 51 yrs. of suicidal Depression and have many times found food my only satisfaction (escape from misery). The more tasty the food or drink (aftertaste included), the more distraction from misery, but also the more I experienced/pleased mySELF. In other words, I catered to and recognized "ME"/self, more than anyone who called themselve my friend. It's all about the OVERWHELMING stress and the "emotional rollercoaster" that she has to deal with in her life, not just her past experiences, but she probably has a difficult family situation that constantly gives her too many different emotions to deal with (from anal retentive passive/aggressive people, good and bad emotions are the back and forth "rollercoaster" of emotions). In a difficult family (dysfunctional) situation, the control freaks pick on the most gentle person and cause them to feel bad, but the control freaks also want to self-righteously feel good about themselves once in a while, so then they will give a compliment in order to make the gentle person feel good (hence,...passive-aggressive). Either which way, the control freaks are always MAKING/causing the gentle person to react TO THEM and not be at peace. It would be best for now to just accept her and give her FLAVORFUL food and drinks (candy, snacks with flavorful sauces, mayonnaise, etc., anything to stimulate the tastebuds (which also stimulates saliva flow and helps digestion, blood circulation, etc.). Flavorful food effects the whole body and causes her to FEEL life more intensely (same as anybody, morale).
