i started smoking when i was 13 years old... and i must have quit several million times... and it seemed that for everytime i made an attempt to quit when i started back i would always end up smoking more... by the time i was finally able to quit i was smoking 5 packs a day...

i took a few simple suggestions from a friend that was going to smokers anonymous... since a lot about the habit of smoking has to do with the oral fixation it was suggested to always keep something in my pocket that i could put in my mouth... either those plastic stir sticks/tooth picks... or hard candy... anything that you can put in your mouth other than a cigarette... and i did all that... but for me the best one... the one that really worked for me... was to put a rubberband around my wrist (i used one of those big thick rubber bands) and everytime the urge becomes overpowering... pull the rubber band back and pop hell out of your wrist... ouch...!!! ouch...!!! ouch...!!! hurts like hell... but guess what... you'll forget about wanting a cigarette... if only for a few minutes at first... but the longer you keep from smoking the fewer the times the rubberband will be necessary... i always kept a rubberband on my wrist even for a couple of years after i had quit... but it worked for me...

and for those of you that want to go deeper than just being a prisoner of your own physical/ego centered cravings... you might want to try finding and connecting to your innermost self/soul/spirit... for there is within us all a power that can resist all such cravings and temptation... regardless of what it might be... and this is what i would call the spiritual path... but only for those brave souls that are willing to find and face the truth... and it will only work provided we make contact and stay connected to our innermost source of power... i know... sounds kinda far out don't it... but it's there... if you sincerely seek it you will find it...
