Dear 66427,
I am truly sorry that you've taken offense to my post. I cannot relate to your experience the way that others suffering from UC can, but I do empathize having witnessed firsthand my son's suffering for more than a year before I found a treatment that worked for him. During his worst times of suffering with the disease, his experience was almost exactly as you've described yours. I understand that you've been suffering for many, many years. UC has not only broken your body, but your spirit as well, and I understand fully how and why this can happen. I appreciate how frustrating it must be when you're so sick and desperate that you're willing to try anything to feel better.
One of your posts really struck a chord with me when you mentioned taking advice from a friend that has HIV. You really can't compare Ulcerative Colitis and HIV, which is what made me wonder if you have a lower-functioning immune system for one reason or another. My post was intened to be encouraging, not insulting, so again, I offer my most sincere apologies for offending you. Sheldon's treatment can work for anyone as long as they are willing to put forth the time and effort it requires, and unfortunately, the timeframe varies from one person to another. I had to stop and start the procedure three different times (due to flare-ups)with my son, but as they say, third time's a charm because the treatment has proved to be a miracle for us.
Prednisone was the only prescription medicine that EVER worked for my son, but we all know the down side to being on Prednisone for extended periods of time. It really is a life-saving medicine, and I do credit it partly for getting my son's health to a point where Sheldon's procedure could work its magic. My son was actually Prednisone dependent before starting the procedure - every time he'd go off, he'd flare up. While using Sheldon's procedure, I was able to safely taper him down with no ill effects. And to top it all off, he started improving even more rapidly once he stopped taking the Predisone all together. I know no two people are the same, so it's totally unreasonable to expect the exact same results from Sheldon's procedure as you've heard someone else may have had. The procedure can work - you've just got to find the right ingredients that are compatible with your body and food tolerances.
I would never want to be resposible for making someone feel badly for not doing something they truly believe is making them sicker. If you believe that this procedure really doesn't work for you, you absolutely shouldn't do it. In order for your physical body to heal, your mental and spiritual health must be in check. If you are prescribed a medicine for a condition, but truly don't believe the medicine will help, it most likely won't. If you are depressed and pretty much angry at the world, it will be difficult to find any treatment that will heal or even provide temporary relief of your condition. Regardless of what avenues you explore in treating this disease, I truly hope you find your health and happiness again. Good luck, and God bless you.
Amanda
