My daughter is bipolar. I would suggest that you try Health Research Institute -Pfeiffer Treatment Center in Warrenville, IL if you can afford it. They have a website and also try It usually cost near $1000 for testing, but they can target your particular problem. In some cases Blue Cross will reimburse the fee. I took my daughter out of desparation and I found that she has Pyroluria and high blood histamines. Pyroluria is frequently the cause of bipolar. My daughter has a genetic problem with abnormal hemoglobins and I think she has Hemoglobin C trait.

Pyroluria causes zinc, B6 and a particular Omega Fatty Acid to be excreted in the urine along with the pyrroles that the body doesn't need. These nutrients are necessary for proper brain function. You can't be hurt to try the omega fatty acids, flax oil is a good source. I was giving my daughter a small amount of omega fatty acids, but Pfeiffer prescribed 2000 mg of ProOmega by Nordic Naturals right away before results came back. They also prescribed a the Pfeiffer Primer with Vitamin C (as magnesium ascorbate 250mg) B6 (as pyridoxine HCI & pyrodoxal-5 phosphate 67mg), Zinc (as zinc picolinate 50mg) , Magnesium (as magnesium ascorbate 22mg), Vitamin E (as d-alpha tocopherily succinate 100 IU) and Manganese (as manganese gluconate 7.5 mg). Pfeiffer also has a pharmacy that will combine the supplements, so you don't have to take so many pills for kids they have lots of flavors. The results are in and now my daughter has been prescribed about 10 supplements in the evening with dinner she should take Vitamin C 1000mg, Zinc 100 mg, Vitamin E 400 IU, Biotin 300 mcg, Methionine 500 mg, Magnesium Oxide 200mg, elemental iron 5mg, ProOmega 1 cap(1000mg), ProEFA 1 Cap (see HRI Cal/Mag 200/150 mg (2 caps). In the morning with breakfast she will take the same amount as the morning of Vitamin C, Biotin, Methionine, ProOmega, ProEFA and HRI Cal/Mag, Pyridoxine (Vitamin B-6 500mg), Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate 75mg, and Methyl B12 2500 mcg. I tried on my own a few months ago to give my daughter Omegas and brain vitamins, it helped alot with the ADHD symtoms, but I was not giving her enough. I wouldn't have felt comfortable giving her 2000mg not knowing what I was doing. My daughter is 13 but she is adult size. The medical doctors only treat the symtoms and finding the right combination of drugs is like a shot in the dark. You will be better helped by finding and treating the cause. I hope I have been a help.
