You talk like we are just a number in a group of millions. Life isn't precious enough to you. I don't mean that to be offensive but It just sounds that way. I mean I am just a number nothing more. If you help someone how is that selfish? It isn't only to feel good. That is just a result of helping someone. I help people because they need help and I am geniunely concerned for them. Sorry if I misread you but this is what I've read into it.
