I had the copper IUD for about a year and a half and had it removed in order to get mirena, and the removal process for me was painful. Granted, not AS painful as insertion of an IUD, but not a walk in the park. My copper IUD had settled low (in my cervical canal) and my body was trying to expel it (why I was cramping ALL the time) but was unable to because the arms of the T had gotten a little imbedded in the lining of my cervix. So when my doc pulled in the strings to remove it, a little bit of tissue came with it. She said that normally I wouldn't have felt a thing though. Hope yours is positioned correctly! :)
