"Slavery was sanctioned in the Bible"

Slavery was a way of life back then, just like abortion is now...that doesn't make it right. I'm not aware of any scripture that endorces the virtues of slavery. If I'm wrong please point me to it.

God said to treat your neighbor like you would yourself. How does this make sense with slavery?
