Hi there
I have to agree with you that the insertion was pretty awful despite the local anaesthetic into my cervix but I had taken Voltaren on the advice of my gyn and after an evening on the couch with a glass of bubbly felt almost normal the next day. Having had a caesarean with our first baby then an induction and episiotomy with the second it was not as bad as I had imagined (I'm a wimp really)
I had a Mirena inserted on 23 Jan 2004 for DUB (dysfunctional uterine bleeding) and we're talking 7 SUPER PLUS tampons in an hour with huge clots - felt like I was haemorraging every month! I was also anaemic due to the DUB and had to take iron tablets daily. I had tried Cyclokapron for the DUB but have an increased risk of blood clots and my Dr warned against continuing with them.
To date I have had the spots/pimples, breat tenderness (mastalgia) and bled lightly for over two months but coming up to 3 mths after insertion think I might have had my period!!! Yay!!! no bloodbaths any more!!
I am already on Aropax for Post natal Depression so that is not an issue. I am fortunate that I have have a great gyn speciaist here in NZ and he gave me all the pros and cons of having the IUD fitted. My only other options were MEA (microwave edometrial ablation)or hysterectomy - yuk!
Overall I am glad I went with the Mirena - will keep you posted. Good luck and chin up ladies :-)
