Hello again,
I just wanted to post a quick note to confirm that aquarium pets (like fish) are fine. The household pets that promote irritation are animals that have feathers or fur, where the shedding of their dead skin containing bacteria gets into the air and fabrics of your home. I tend to agree with you that your son's flareup is promoted by the stress related to his memory of the irritation that the water brought (due to chlorine); especially since you've already addressed the wool or synthetic fabrics as irritants.
Also, if I haven't already stated it, you should take a look at the wholehealthmd.com website to get an idea of the types of foods that you would want to introduce to your son to improve his immune health (check out the eczema section). This would be a lifestyle of healthy eating that would be implemented as he grows. Because your son's immune system is not yet strong enough to defend itself against the allergen/irritants without producing an overactive immune response, you have had to play the role of his immune system. That role is to detect foreign toxins (allergen/irritants) and to defeat their attack on the body. You've done this by identifying the allergen/irritants (chlorine, wool or synthetic fabrics, and so on...) and ridding them from your son's environment. Although it seems like a lot of work initially, eventually (when the immune health is restored to a healthy balance through nutrition) his immune system will be able to take over the fight effectively on its own. I have every confidence that your son has the parents who are more than capable to achieve complete success.
