Are you American Asian living in Singapore? Or from some other country and living in Singapore?

My sister went to a school that had soooo many countries mixed together, an international school. There were of course asians from many different countries, asian americans, white americans, mexicans, africans, europeans etc. Well this one korean lady thought that this asian american boy (my sister's best friend) was very rude. She had asked him where he was from, and he said "America." (I believe he is 4th generation american? At any rate he ONLY speaks english, and I think one of his grandparents was caucasian). So the lady said, No, I mean, where are you FROM? and he said, "America" - because what else is he supposed to say? He can't get any more american than he is now. Nobody goes around asking caucasian americans where they are FROM and expecting to hear "Ireland" or something. Hmm we thought the whole thing was rather funny :-)
Anyway I didn't know if you run into any of that. Or for example if you were Korean, or Indonesian Chinese, people might think you speak Chinese and talk to you in Chinese but you don't understand. Interesting thing, appearances and perceptions.

Singapore is the BEST. I love all the different kinds of curries. Beef rendang, sayur lodeh and nasi kuning is my FAVORITE. I also love Crystal Jade, especially the xiao long bao. Roti prata? YUM! Too bad those things aren't exactly the healthiest! I've got a looooong list of all the things I want to eat next time I go there! ha ha ha ha At least the Sugar cane juice is healthy, that is my #1 favorite!
