Hi Cally,

I've written you before. No, the fast will not cure you of your want/need to purge. But...

if you are ready to truly give it up, set yourself a date... December 17th for example and if you have the ability to fast until then, you have the ability to not purge from the 17th to Jan 2, right? See what happens and let me know.

The fast is helpful for getting a grip on what's going on in your body. It makes you even more aware than the habits of an anorexic or bulimic because they are not realistic perceptions. It is a great way to kick start a new life.

I recommend getting together with a counselor who speacializing in eating disorders. If you can't afford that, or don't have access to that, find an Overeater's Anonomys meeting near you. Some of them are actually geared toward anorexics and bulimics. You NEED someone to support you in the management of this sickness. I did it on my own for a while, the recovery. I gained 20 pounds in two weeks, flipped out and went back to the lifestyle even more hard core. It wasn't until I started seeing a therapist, that I really started to get a handle on it. He wasn't a specialist though, so some times, it was annoying.

It probably took about 3 years to be 90% recovered.

I say, do the fast and start healthy living. Non-excessive exercise, no vomiting, no laxatives and no binging. After the fast, do two weeks of healthy living. Then take a look at yourself (inside) and see if it's something you can live with. Sometimes you'll break. But, it's okay to have set backs. Just don't make it a habit.

Let me know if you need me.
