I find early Christianity a wonderful study and I have learned a great deal. However, as I have said, I don't use the bible. There is a wealth of other material from non Orthodox sources that I find intriguing, as they it is so different than the traditional views.

The Bible, is, of course, still a valid study for some. The old testament is a wonderful history book but it is just too far out of date -- unless you believe in owning slaves, marrying your dead brothers wife, stoning witches and committing genocide on a massive scale like Joshua and many others engaged in. Many believe the bible literally, so there is a small problem here....

In addition, because of the alterations over centuries in the new testament and because of the views and creations of the Apostle Paul, I just don't find the new testament as credible as other sources (for me, anyway).

An example:

"Of all of Paul's teachings, those that stir the most controversy today relate to homosexuality and the role of women in the church. Writing to his co-worker Timothy, Paul declares that a woman may not "teach or have authority over a man; she is to keep silent" in the church. And in a notorious passage in the letter to the Ephesians, he exhorts women to "submit yourselves unto your own husbands."

To each his own though... *smile*

If you are interested, I have a forum on early Christianity that is languishing. Esoteric debate just got incorporated into the main forum here, and so there is not really a place now to debate esoteric and early Chritianity.

Perhaps I will jump start my Christianity Forum .

It's at wizardnet.com

If guess I should put out a general invite to everyone. I want traditional folks there, to debate the orthodox side of the early church. Otherwise, the inetrchhanges lack depth...
