Hi,
It's magnesium that you lack, not calcium.
I used to cramp up from just sitting the wrong the, with my legs tightening like crazy, and I'd have to really work to stretch out the muscles in the affected calf. It hurt a lot.
I also used to get cramps and tightening in my jaw muscles, also quite painful, and I'd have to jut out my jaw to stretch the muscle back into a more "relaxed" state.
I also used to have my attention on my heart periodically, the sensation of "it's stopped!" or the like, or occasionally flutters or something.
Since I started supplementing magnesium, however, those problems have vanished.
You can take it with or without calcium, but if you do take it with calcium, you will probably need to consume something acidic with it to encourage uptake of the calcium (magnesium is slightly alkaline...).
I have five different magnesium supplements that I vary through, each of which has different complementary minerals (calcium, boron, copper, manganese, iodine, potassium, etc.) because most of us are pretty deficient in a wide variety of minerals, thanks to "modern" farming. I'm not certain which foods are adequate sources of these minerals, although I suspect (haven't tested it yet!) doing a juice fast with a lot of variety would work.
Someone was mentioning "Coral Calcium" in another forum (sorry I've forgotten who!) as a supplement which conveniently has (if memory serves) a 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium, the "officially proper" ratio, while being in an extremely bioavailable form. You might want to take a look into that.
Good luck!
