Hello everyone,
I have not been participating much lately in your discussions because I just prefer doing my fast alone. But I've read your posts since I was curious how others do on water. Yes, the key word here is WATER. I must agree with Mike on that. There is no such thing as waterfast on and off depending on how hungry you feel:). It would almost sound amusing if it was possibly harmful. I've read one of the posts where someone argues for eating during the fast giving an example of Africans. Well, if you mean the starbing people in Somalia, be sure that they are far from healthy. They are severly undernurished, lack enough muscle mass, suffer diseases, and will die sooner than the "westerners". I really do not see that example as a relevant one.
It is nice that the people here trust their intuition with what they eat but if they'd look at how a fast is done in a hospital when it is inevitable to do it, they'd see that breaking any kind of fast (even for a weight loss) with chicken can only mess you up.
Furthermore, fasting is not a sport. It is tool for a cure that, many believe (some don't),works wonders if done properly. One can loose substantial body weight along the fast but the problem is that eventualy on must eat and our body has a tendency to make up for a fast weight loss. Therefore, one must make permanent changes in his/her diet in order not to regain the weight lost during the fast. Most people who play with fasting regain all the weight and a little more. They see it as a failure, and want to repeat the process all over. That's called the yo-yo effect, which leads to obesity (one usualy loses muscle but gains fat when repeated several times, one gets fatter and fatter even if the weight is not that much higher overall!!). And that is the problem with abusing the waterfast for weight loss.
