The amazing thing is that it's not so much what happened to us when we were a child, but our perception of what happened. Although some parents do horrendous things to children, all parents are imperfect in their role. Parents are children and products of their imperfect parents -- each one striving to overcome obstacles and hurdles set in their path at a young age.
I am always amazed that children of the same family can have different takes on what happened in the household. So, the real point is not so much what actually happened or did not happen, it's real to the person and therefore needs to be dealt with.
It's the power of unconditional forgiveness that can release that pain and heal the wounding.
