Oh, you never yacked my ear at all, and anytime you want to talk, I'll be glad just to read your story and maybe try to advise you, if needed, or just hear, as you seem to realize just yourself what is that you need to do.
Surely your situation is very difficult with an husband who drinks, and I wouldn't like to be in your situation at all.
But I know of one man in my family who started to drink early, and then beat his little son, his wife, lost his wife and son after many years of that, of course totally unable to work,against everybody and always wanting to beat anyone who tried to help him, then went into cure after my sister tried and help him, then went on drinking and then to cure, then drinking, then ... and on and on , and on ... he is 50 yrs old now ... you know what I mean ... Are you going to have your whole life and your sons devastated ? because whatever you will try won't change him, but he will just drag everybody into it.
Yes, he has to cure himself, but if he does not want, where is your responsability there ? and why would you and your sons be miserable because of that, throughout your life ? what will your being unhappy with him help him in any way ?
From all what you wrote, I see that you didn't have much chance and you certainely haven't been helped a lot by others, but spent much time to try and help the others.

So thinking of being independant today is your solution, like you obviously found out alone, and you know that the fist step for the new start.
